Alexandria is not only known to be a thriving city on the edge of Minnesota's western prairie, but is mostly noted for where it is--a stone-throw away from hundreds of clear, blue Minnesota lakes.

Alexandria has been a favorite vacation spot for thousands each year and is a fast-growing community in the western part of the state.

In its early days, two young brothers, Alexander and William Kinkead, came from Delaware westward following dreams of settling land in the Minnesota Territory. Their travels brought them along the Red River Trail, just about the time when Minnesota moved from territory to statehood in 1958.
